The new album by Hugues Aufray is called Self-portrait with, the cover of the disc a quasi-Christic face of the artist, painted on two planks of salvaged wood in 1999. The twelve songs : in search of our roots, and a particular attention to the “Little People”, more particularly those who have sweated blood to allow others to prosper in the famous American Way of Life. The disc opens besides on the only true contract which links the rich to the poor: the question of money: in “Paie Moi, Paie Moi,a negro spiritual, the sailor summons his captain to settle the arrears due to him The album walks through styles and influences , Lead Belly, Josh White, The Weavers, Pete Seeger, Bob Dylan, Ray Charles, Bruce Springsteen, Johnny Cash, Tom Waits, and Mississippi John Hurt… Hugues concludes the album with a Hasta Luego of hope An album of wind, sea, river and land draws the portrait of Hughes Aufray .
